![]() ![]() Pike has his teenagers dwell a realistic amount on sex, making-out and the dubious perks of virginity, but Jean doesn't have to 'degrade' herself for a buck. I also liked how self-conscious she was about being a 'new' flier. Her rueful thoughts about the school assignment that made her two days late to join them and the thankless JELLO-job she performed to make the money to pay for the trip were endearing. In this story, Jean is excited to join her friend Mandy and congenial acquaintance Michele on their long-planned trip to Maui. I love the supernatural, but visions and dreams only do so much for a book. Unfortunately, while these are all good things, Pike's plots do tend to fizzle out and lean heavily on late-game psychic explanations. ![]() ![]() Pike's books are psychologically more complex, filled with detail that engrosses the reader on a subject while serving up a scary plot - in this case scuba-diving - and the covers are objectively cooler.
